Has dating become more complicated?

When I was fourteen, even though it didn't seem like it then, dating was easy. You either wrote your crush a note or told a friend who told a friend who..well told a friend. Your crush either liked you back and you immediately started going out or he didn't like you and for the next week you were embarrassed to even show your face at school. Now however, it's so much more complicated. I find myself doing background checks on these guys by either stalking them on Facebook or seeing if they are on some other social media website. Once I find these guys, the texting begins. I'm like re-reading their texts and analysing them way to much. Did he say "hi" the right way? Was he happy that I texted him? Should I have waited? I mean really people, whatever happened to calling? I mean its not like phones have gone completely extinct right? Is texting the new way of sending your crush a note or is it just the second step in the process? Why are there so many steps? Why is it so complicated? Why am I asking so many questions? I just want to go on a date, have a nice dinner, and get a phone call within the next day or two. Is it that hard?

As I'm answering my own questions I realized something. I'm the one creating these steps and I didn't even know it. I mean of course society has some part in this but in reality in me who is playing into it. Of course texting is a big part of many people's lives but that doesn't me that I have to use it all the time. I can be more aggressive in the dating scene. Guys don't always have to approach a girl first. I mean come on people is 2010 not 1910. So I'm telling you this now, I am going to put myself out there more in the dating scene. I'm going to keep my face out of my phone and into the eyes of the hot guy across the bar. Whether it's going to work or not, I can't really tell you. I can tell you though, a lot of people should do the same thing! Get out there! Stop texting! Actually use your mouth and talk to people! Don't be a Facebook stalker. If it's meant to be, you'll find out all the information that you want when they TELL YOU! Of course if the guy is my already my friend on Facebook I'm going to check out their pictures. I'm not going to go search them out to see if them even have one though. Dating is already complicated enough, why bring anymore elements into it? Here it from me first, I'm going to bring back dating..1998 style.
